What they needed
For over 25 years, RBC has been taking steps to build an equitable future with Indigenous Peoples, from funding philanthropic initiatives to providing opportunities for employment, education, and procurement. Wanting to share their progress, they approached us to develop A Chosen Journey, a report and campaign that celebrates Indigenous knowledge and RBC’s ongoing work towards reconciliation.

How we helped
It was essential for this project to be Indigenous-led and informed. We looped in and managed some incredible Indigenous creatives, including the writer, models, photographer, and beaders, to design an accessible report following RBC brand guidelines. We also produced a series of window clings, rotating TV displays, and banners for Indigenous Heritage Month and Indigenous Peoples Day. Reflected in the work are themes such as hope, love, family, tradition, and knowledge sharing, every part infused with authenticity and attention to detail.

Making a difference
Since it launched, A Chosen Journey has been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback. RBC branches across the country are continuing to represent Indigenous Peoples in more authentic ways, highlighting success and great partnerships. Filled with empowering visuals and inspirational stories, the final report works to strengthen Indigenous languages with versions available in Inuktitut and Mi’kmaq. It isn’t just a great piece of Indigenous design—it’s been acclaimed as the best report that RBC has ever made.

Moving forward together
Following the success of the 2022 report and campaign, RBC and DDP are continuing to work together on projects that support their journey towards reconciliation. One exciting initiative is the creation of an Indigenous photo library that features individuals and families from across the country as they visit the bank, spend time at home, and enjoy the great outdoors. Genuine representation means imagery that resonates, which benefits RBC and Indigenous audiences alike.
